---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Directions for working with CineForm RAW(TM) demo footage from SI-2K camera ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Important Note: In order to work with Prospect2K versions 3.2 or higher, please download the AVIHeaderUpdate.exe from the main Silicon Imaging support page at: http://www.siliconimaging.com/DigitalCinema/SiliconImaging_support.html 1) Download the 15-day CineForm Prospect 2K Demo or NEO 2K demo from the CineForm website (link at the top of the gallery web-page). 2) Download the .zip file from the gallery web-page containing the CineForm RAW AVI file and the IRIDAS .look file for the AVI. 3) Install CineForm Prospect 2K or NEO 2K (Premiere Pro 2.0 required for Prospect 2K Install, for other applications use NEO 2K). If you simply want to playback the files and import into AE and Premiere Pro, download NEO Player, which is a decoder-only product. NEO player will never expire unlike the 15-day demos of Prospect and NEO 2K. 4) Double-click on the .look file to register it. You should get a message box after double-clicking it that says, "1 LUT file(s) installed or upgraded". 5) Opening the CineForm RAW AVI file in Windows Media player will result in a half-resolution decode. This is normal, as it's a "proxy" generated from the full-resolution wavelet information in real-time. This "proxy" was created so that RAW files could be played back in Windows Media Player on modest machines and laptops. 6) Open Premiere Pro and create a CineForm project at 2048x1152 (Prospect 2K only). 7) Import the CineForm RAW file. 8) In order to access the CineForm RAW controls for a clip, place the clip on the timeline and park the playhead over the clip so that it is visible in the Program Monitor. Then go into the "Playback Settings" in the context menu of the Program Monitor. 9) There wll be two buttons in the lower left-hand corner: "Global Settings" and "File Settings". 10) "File Settings" allows adjustment to the white-balance, .look file associated with the clip, and other adjustments to the metadata of the RAW file. "Global Settings" adjusts the quality of the demosaic in the rendered output and the preview/scrubbing. Bilinear is a very basic but fast demosaic algorith, while the 5x5 Advanced is much sharper but slower for scrubbing. 11) The CineForm control areas also allow the user to turn on/off any or all of the metadata settings to get back to the RAW 10-bit LOG format without any color manipulation. 12) Using IRIDAS SpeedGrade OnSet, you can make modifications to the .look file and apply them to footage using the "Apply Look" controls under the "File Settings" section of the CineForm controls. For each new .look you make, be sure to register the .look file by double-clicking it in the Explorer. If a .look file has not been registered, it will not be accessable to the CineForm software. You can get a free 30-day trial of SpeedGrade OnSet from IRIDAS at www.iridas.com 13) You can also import the RAW .avi file into After Effects (both Prospect 2K and NEO products). Note: enteringinto 32-bit float mode results in the file being re-linearized for proper linear-light 32-bit floating point operation. This will look like a gamma shift to the end-user, but it is actually correct math for true linear-light operations. To go back to a "correct" looking gamma- corrected image, add an adjustment or guides layer that has a "levels" filter and adds a gamma of 2.2 to the image. Do you compositing and other layer-based manipulation upstream from the the gamma-correction adjustment/guide layer for correct 32-bit linear floating point compositing operations (so the adjustment/guide layer should always stay on the top in the comp). 14) In After Effects to turn off the metadata (3D LUT and white-balance), returning you the RAW 10-bit log data from the camera, go into the "Project" panel, right click on the footage, and go to "Interpret Footage". At the bottom of the Interpret Footage window is a button labeled "More". Click on that button and then selec the check-box to turn off metadata for that clip.
